US Commander in Europe warns against withdrawing American troops from the continent.

The top commander of US forces in Europe, General Christopher Cavoli, opposed reducing the US military presence. He recommends maintaining the current troop level that was established after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2014.
The Pentagon is considering the possibility of reducing troop numbers in Eastern Europe by 10,000, which has drawn criticism from the Trump administration and Republican 'hawks' in defense.
The Chairman of the Armed Services Committee criticizes the possible reduction of US military presence in Europe and accuses the previous Department of Defense of trying to redirect military resources from Europe, which threatens national security.
Other Republicans are also expressing concern over the possible troop reduction. They believe that this is a sign of weakness and a relaxation of attitudes towards Russia.
General Cavoli believes that abandoning the US leadership role in NATO command in Europe would be problematic.
