IAEA experts detected strong fires near the temporarily Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which may threaten the external power supply to the plant.
The IAEA support and assistance mission observed several fires at a distance from the Zaporizhzhia NPP and adjacent villages in Zaporizhzhia last week.
Over the weekend, IAEA experts noticed smoke from an area north of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, near the entry channel of the Zaporizhzhia TPP. The fire occurred under the 750 kV Dnipro line's overhead cables and the 1330 kV backup power transmission line of Ferroalloy – the only remaining external power lines for the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
"As the summer heat continues, such fires along the paths of the two remaining lines pose a risk of losing the external power supply to the Zaporizhzhia NPP. Although this Time no line was disabled, the situation underscores the fragility of the external power supply to the Zaporizhzhia NPP," reported IAEA representatives.
