A controversy arose in Odesa regarding the monument to Alexander Pushkin, which still stands in the city. Myroslav Otkovych addressed Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov with a question about this situation, pointing out the inconsistency of having a monument next to the debris of Russian missiles and marks of strikes on Ukrainian cities.

«This installation stands next to the proponent of the «Russian world» - the monument to Pushkin... Where is the logic? Who can explain this to me?», asks Otkovych.

Mayor Trukhanov explained that to him, Pushkin is just a historical figure, not connected to the political aspects of the present. However, the question of removing the monument remains relevant.

Public Reaction

This situation sparked a discussion in Ukrainian society about the importance of preserving historical heritage during the current war with Russia. Some believe that the symbolism of the past should not contribute to the spread of Russian propaganda in Ukraine.
