Ecological disaster

The Dniester is a river that supplies water to the entire Odesa region, and it is rapidly drying up. In light of the threat of an ecological crisis, residents of the region are urged to conserve water whenever possible.

This was reported by employees of the 'Tuzlovskyi Limans'.

The Dniester originates in the Carpathians and flows through the territories of seven Ukrainian regions, including Odesa, as well as neighboring Moldova. It also supplies several hydroelectric power plants. In our region, the decrease in water levels in this river has reached critical significance.

How to save water

Scientists and ecologists have urged a reconsideration of consumer attitudes towards water resources and to conserve them more in everyday life. In particular, the following recommendations are provided:

• brush teeth with the tap closed;
• use a smaller stream of water;
• prefer showers over baths;
• immediately repair or replace a faucet when it malfunctions;
• purchase a toilet with two flushing modes (dual-button on the tank);
• install a water meter;
• if there are many dishes to wash, do so in the sink, not under running water;
• collect laundry to fully load the washing machine;
• use the method of mulching plants to reduce watering and retain existing moisture;
• wash the car using a bucket, not a hose.

Ecologists add that by following these tips, you not only save a valuable resource but also your own money, as this way the water bill can be reduced several times.
