Polish authorities have revealed the reason for the detention of Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk at Krakow airport.
According to Jacek Michalowski of the Carpathian Border Guard Unit, Usyk was arrested as a preventive measure.
I can confirm that the intervention concerned two people with Ukrainian citizenship. This is a case where the carrier does not allow them to fly. They lost passenger status and were not allowed on board. They did not want to leave the gate, the plane could not take off. They did not respond to staff requests, and in accordance with the procedure, our special group staff intervened.
It was also noted that two members of Usyk's team did not receive passenger status and could not fly. They refused to leave the boarding area, preventing the plane from taking off. However, no physical force was used against them.
Earlier, Polish promoter Andrzej Wasilewski expressed outrage over Usyk's arrest, considering the situation shameful for Poland. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also reacted to Oleksandr Usyk's arrest in Krakow.
Usyk spoke out about the incident in Krakow for the first Time.
