Portugal named the reason for the large-scale power outage.

According to the Portuguese electricity grid operator REN, the blackout in Europe was caused by a rare atmospheric phenomenon. This led to interruptions in electricity supply in Portugal due to a failure in the Spanish electricity grid. According to the statement, extreme temperature changes in Spain caused abnormal fluctuations in high-voltage lines, resulting in synchronization disruptions between electricity systems in Europe.
Due to the complexity of the phenomenon, full restoration of the grid may take up to a week. As a result of the blackout, the infrastructure of several countries was damaged, including Portugal, Spain, France, Andorra, and Belgium.
The European Commission is in contact with the national authorities of Spain and Portugal, as well as with the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity, to address the issue of the mass power outage.
Media reported that disruptions in the electricity grid were due to a fire in France. European energy companies are already working on solving the problem, but the Spanish transmission operator Red Eléctrica stated that the power outage will last from 6 to 10 hours.
Ukraine is also ready to help restore the stable operation of the energy networks of European partners. According to Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko, Ukrainian specialists have significant experience in restoring energy systems.
It is also anticipated that this summer Ukraine will face a deficit of electricity due to the repair of power units.
