Strawberry Propagation by Whiskers - How to Do It in July 2025.

In July, many gardeners start planning the future crop of plants in the garden, especially strawberries, which are always desired in greater quantities. Find out how to propagate these berry bushes by whiskers and which methods to use during this procedure.
News.LIVE shares useful tips for gardeners.
How to propagate strawberries by whiskers
Step one - selecting a 'donor'
Before conducting the procedure, it is necessary to choose a suitable mother bush, which is two to three years old. Ideally, the 'donor' should have large and healthy leaves without spots, and there should be no signs of pests on it.
Some experienced gardeners identify a few of the strongest bushes and remove the flower stalks from them so that all the plant's energy goes into forming good whiskers and rosettes.
Step two - selecting a rosette
Find the rosette that is growing closest to the mother bush - it is the one that receives the maximum amount of nutrients and has the greatest potential.
Step three - propagating the bushes
Strawberry bushes can be propagated directly in the bed or in a separate cup. If you do this right in the garden, gently pin the rosette to the soil with bent wire or press it down with a small stone.
If you are using a cup for this, take one with drainage holes, fill it with loose soil, and bury it at soil level near the rosette. After that, also pin the rosette to the soil in the cup.
As soon as you have transplanted the whiskers, be sure to water the young bushes abundantly and mulch the soil around them to retain this moisture with mowed grass or straw. This will not only keep water inside the soil but also protect the root system of the plants from overheating.
