U.S. President Donald Trump has extended the package of sanctions against Russia for another year. The relevant document has been published in the Federal Register of the United States, reports UNIAN.

This package of sanctions, introduced by former President Joe Biden, is called 'Continuation of the National Emergency Concerning Certain Harmful Foreign Activities of the Government of the Russian Federation.'

According to the document, a national emergency was declared on April 15, 2021, to combat 'the unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States posed by the negative external activities of the Government of the Russian Federation.'

The Biden administration has several times supplemented and extended this order. The latest update was made on April 10, 2025, and it states that the state of emergency should continue after April 15 of the current year.

Sanctions have been imposed against Russia for attempts to undermine the conduct of free and fair elections, involvement in cyberattacks against the U.S. and its allies, using transnational corruption to influence foreign governments, extraterritorial activities against dissidents and journalists, and violations of universally accepted principles of international law, including respect for the territorial integrity of states.

The document states that 'the national emergency declared by Executive Order 14024, which has been expanded by Executive Order 14066, and for which additional measures have been taken in Executive Orders 14039, 14068, 14071, and 14114, shall remain in effect after April 15, 2025.'

Currently, there are no details about further steps by the United States regarding the situation and Russia's response to the extension of sanctions.
