Hurricane 'Helen' raging in the state of Florida: there are victims, authorities evacuate tens of thousands of residents.


Hurricane Helen hit the coast of Florida with winds of up to 140 miles per hour, reaching the fourth category. This is the most powerful hurricane ever observed in the Big Bend region. The storm is accompanied by dangerous storm surges, floods, and destructive winds. The U.S. National Weather Service warns of unbearable storm surges in Apalachee Bay. At least three people have already died as a result of the hurricane.

Hurricane Helen also brings heavy rains. The Governor of Florida urges residents to stay home and avoid travel as the storm floods streets and creates hazardous conditions. Storm surges have caused flooding in southwestern Florida and the Tampa Bay area. Duke Energy expects significant damage to its infrastructure in the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend areas.
Earlier in January, powerful tornadoes already caused destruction and death in Florida. The sixth tropical storm made landfall in Louisiana. Tropical Storm Francine, which has strengthened to a second category, brought heavy rains and floods.
