Russia has lost its main sphere of influence in the Middle East, including its logistical bases. This was reported by Andriy Kovalенко, head of the Center for Political Studies of the National Security and Defense Council.
He noted that the main reason for Russia's defeat in Syria is the destruction of Putin's influence by Prigozhin and the 'Wagner' group. Previously, Prigozhin was responsible for creating the system of Russian influence in the Middle East and Africa.
“Syria was the key to Africa thanks to Russian bases and the navy's access to the Mediterranean Sea. Putin became afraid and killed Prigozhin, after which the entire system collapsed,” Kovalенко noted.
Kovalенко also pointed out that now Russia is becoming less influential in Africa. Now Moscow is trying to blame Iran for the loss of Syria. Moreover, he noted that Russian forces will be concentrated on the war with Ukraine.
