A Russian rower was denied participation in the youth European Championship, which is set to take place in the Polish city of Kruszwica. The reason was the organizers' requirement to sign a political declaration condemning Russia's actions towards Ukraine. This was reported by the president of the Russian Rowing Federation.
A Ukrainian athlete stated that it is impossible to compete in these tournaments due to the requirement to sign documents confirming the absence of funding from Russia. The junior competitions are scheduled for May 24-25 in Poland.
At the moment we will not be able to compete in Kruszwica. The Polish Rowing Association, as the organizer of the competition, set additional conditions that we cannot comply with. It wants all our athletes who planned to participate in the European Championship to sign declarations stating that they do not receive Russian state funding, as well as sponsorship funds from companies or individuals associated with Russia, said Svirin.
Additionally, Russian tennis player Polina Kudermetova published a symbol of aggression against Ukraine – a commemorative ribbon, which sparked outrage among the public.
