Moldova and Romania have tightened border control for vehicles entering these countries. Now travelers must have a technical inspection certificate; otherwise, border guards will not let the car through.

Vehicle Technical Condition Certificate

Now a technical inspection certificate for the vehicle has become a mandatory document. This document confirms that the car is operational, without serious malfunctions, and meets environmental standards. Without it, the car will not be allowed into Moldova, even if you have all other documents, including the 'Green Card'. The new rules apply to all types of vehicles: passenger cars, minibuses, trucks, and buses. The technical inspection certificate is issued only at specially certified maintenance stations after a complete inspection of the vehicle.

What documents you need when crossing the border

To cross the border smoothly, drivers need to have:

  • passport (biometric or with a visa);
  • driver's license;
  • vehicle registration certificate;
  • 'Green Card' insurance policy;
  • technical inspection certificate;
  • vignette (proof of payment of road tax in Moldova).

It is prohibited to bring drugs, weapons, explosives, chemicals, animal products, seedlings, and seeds into Moldova. Violating these rules may lead to the seizure of goods and a ban on entry.

Moldova and Romania are introducing a mandatory technical inspection certificate for cars entering the country. This new rule aims to enhance road safety and prevent the entry of vehicles in emergency condition.
